hi sue
nice to hear your sparrow population is good,i have a few on the island but just otherside of river on a estate there is hundreds also tons at wales,i think they have just moved where they can nest and find the right habitat for food.
Dave.
Hi Dave, pleased you're all back safe and glad you enjoyed the break. The weather has been awful and I'm hoping it will pick up before I go on my hols to Cornwall in 3 weeks time. Not much happening in the garden at the mo except loads and loads of sparrows. I thought they were in decline, but we've had more this year than ever. Good to have you back Dave, keep in touch...Sue
Hi all
nice 2 b back even though its wet,had a nice break not much filming done apart frm filming a heron catching a large eel and eating it,not a good idea filming wildlife with the family with you hope you are all well.
Dave.
Hi all
away untill 30th aug so system will shut down,i dont like the mass of power sockets left on while away hope this is not to much of a inconveniance for you.
Dave
The past few days heard juv sparrowhawks visiting copse,if she did second clutch it was close by,unless they are juvaniles from another site not seen them yet just heard there calls so cannot guess a age of them ill keep a eye out for them. Dave
Hi David, All hawks doing fine thanks, yesterday one went about 4 feet over me, unfortunately my eyes didnt have time to focus, my closest encounter to date.
ben
Just noticed you email Dave, footage was great,I was thinking long the same lines. looked up polygyny in sparrowhawks could find no reference, some other raptors are successful where the male is large ie buzzard size and can catch larger prey, or it can be 'locally common' in vole eating birds such as hen harriers living off voles in a good year....David
hello Dave,Your welcome, any interesting news I will past on.Been out since early watching in a spot were I could see everything, only saw the male delivering food, mags were there as quick as he could deliver It, It had to been seen to be believed, I checked my notes when I got back hen last seen on july 16 over a month, time goes so quick, not good news is it Dave,
Hi David
some times when kills are bought in juv will fight for it,may be she got injured and then got weak just a guess.
Its great info that these corvids do it not just here proving they must do it at most sparowhawk nest sites i have not seen this data logged anywhere.
Dave.
thanks for that Ben, how are yours getting on.Just one more thing Dave, damned magpies and jays were raiding there food supply continual, what ever it was I don't mind telling you it upset me somewhat. David.
