The mother acts as if it's a game and this doesn't look good.

This is not getting any better - when the parents do feed the baby it seems they are trying to stuff grass or nesting material down its throat. I know that humans are not allowed to interfere but it is heartbreaking.

Hi Sue. I am at a loss as to why the Magpies have got such a strong hold this season and can only hope that this little one will make it. I dont know if you're interested in the flamingos, but the cam view has changed and its now on a nest with female and egg! Hope all is well with you. Aimee.

Hi all, its the first time I've logged on to this sight for 5 days as the cam was constantly down. I've been catching up on all your posts. It seems a big battle with the magpies this year, and I hope they don't come back and fetch this remaining chick. Poor little thing looks so vulnerable, but mum was there for a while. I have been watching the sparrowhawk sight and I hardly dare watch any longer. so many sad stories. You become attached to these little ones, well I do anyway...Sue

I agree with you Penny as I have seen the same and I'll be surprised if this little mite makes it but you never know.

I know what you mean Penny. I havent seen the male today but yesterday he did come to the nest and perched on the side till the female got back. Today the chick does seem to have been left alone for alot longer but I have seen her bring it food a few times and clean the nest out-if a bit boisterously! Felt a bit sorry for the chick being pushed about all over the place! Whilst doing this she has just come back and looks to be settled for the night. Maybe the parents are young birds themselves and this was their first clutch?

Thanks Aimee. I am worried as these parents do not seem to be behaving normally. The feeding is few and far between and the baby is left without any cover for ages at a time which cannot be good in this warm weather.

Hi Penny, have been watching this cam for awhile this evening. Glad the female has come back-was getting a bit concerned. Re the posts and messages-it seems to work ok here. When I do post though I quickly go up to log out just in case mine go through twice!!

Is anyone else looking at this cam? I don't seem to get an update of messages until I post. Don't know why my posts then appear twice!

This is so sad to watch - neither parent is feeding the baby. I have been watching on and off all afternoon and there have been no feeds.

A rich variety of birds visit British gardens, and you can help encourage them by setting up a bird feeder in your garden. The most common visitors are Blue Tits, Great Tits, Sparrows, Chaffinches and even the occasional Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

How many different birds can you spot?

At night, you may catch a glimpse of one of the UK's most elusive and increasingly rare mammals, the Hedgehog. As autumn progresses, they will become more active, foraging for food to build up their strength for the long, winter hybernation. They eat slugs, beetles and other insects, but are partial to unsalted peanuts too. If you leave food out for our spiny friends, make sure it isn't bread and milk, as this will make them ill.
