OMG the babies had vanished this morning by 5am. They were fine at dusk, but when I checked this morning there was no sign of life. Does anyone know their fate?

Just to say how wonderful it is to have our two pigeons (& their eggs) back again. I missed them so much when they were replaced with a bird feeder!

Ready to fly
EfteEfte on 23rd May 2009
The little birds have really grown in the three days I have been away. I read that it takes 19 days for them to fledge, so they should be ready to leave the nest on 27th May. I will miss them when they go.

Eight Chicks - maybe?
EfteEfte on 18th May 2009
OK maybe I am seeing double as I've been watching so much, but I think there might be 8 chicks. They are really getting lively and starting to look like little birds instead of just a huge beak on a stick.

Six Chix
EfteEfte on 18th May 2009
Saw all six this morning. These chicks seem to be well snuggled down in the nest and sometimes get hidden. Glad to see they are all still alive. :)

Efte - there are six, just counted them, I think one may be hidden by part of the nesting material.

Chicks
EfteEfte on 17th May 2009
Mum and Dad are both really busy feeding today, but I have only counted five. I do hope we haven't lost one. There were definitely six a few days ago.

Blue Tit Mum
gijoegijoe on 17th May 2009
I think she must be cleaning house - any idea how many babies there are in there?

One of the parents keeps diving down amongst the chicks head first so that only the tail is showing. It is amazing the poor little chicks are not squashed to bits.

Feathers
lace leaflace leaf on 15th May 2009
Awwww a soft bundle of wiggling feathers, silky and sweet. Then Three massive gaping gobs appeared and I thought mum and dad might fall in! It,s great to see both mum and dad are feeding, I wonder wether the rain makes it difficult getting food.Flight must be harder.

birdies
gijoegijoe on 14th May 2009
I think there are at least six - suppose only the strongest will survive. Must be a tight squeeze in there!

A rich variety of birds visit British gardens, and you can help encourage them by setting up a bird feeder in your garden. The most common visitors are Blue Tits, Great Tits, Sparrows, Chaffinches and even the occasional Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

How many different birds can you spot?

At night, you may catch a glimpse of one of the UK's most elusive and increasingly rare mammals, the Hedgehog. As autumn progresses, they will become more active, foraging for food to build up their strength for the long, winter hybernation. They eat slugs, beetles and other insects, but are partial to unsalted peanuts too. If you leave food out for our spiny friends, make sure it isn't bread and milk, as this will make them ill.
