Beaver

About

After a 500 year absence from Lancashire, in 2007 two European beavers, a male and a female called Twiggy and Woody, became residents at Martin Mere. Their nocturnal activities captured on night vision cameras made them the undisputed stars of Autumnwatch and you can now watch the nightly antics of the beavers through this webcam.

At the moment the beavers are fairly active from 9pm in the evening but it is always weather dependent. We have two cameras in the enclosure so the view will often change.

Hiya............no, at the moment it's the adults and last yrs young.......keep your eyes open though cos you will be able to tell when the kits are out.............they are much shorter than the others and so far seem to have only done slow circuits of the main pond area in the centre

BEAVERKEEPER

Submitted by titchtot on Fri, 01/07/2011 - 22:13.

I think there may be 2 kits............! I have just watched a much smaller beaver swimmin in the main pond area......then a second......and then a poss adult came back up the left hand channel and the smaller beaver swam to its side and stayed with it and went underwater..........time was between 10.30 and 11......Any chance you can confrim or whatever?
I have a 37 second clip of the beavers........and there is def 1 much smaller than any of the others with a poss 2nd in the background, they are not last yrs as they are now quite big......or should that be long!

SPLOSH...

Submitted by LuluB on Thu, 30/06/2011 - 18:58.

That duck needs to work on his landings.

It's no good.....I can't make out anything in the water while it's still light, because of all the moving reflections. Will be back later, when I fully expect to see a load of chubby baby beavers bobbing around in the water.

very definitely splosh!

Submitted by titchtot on Thu, 30/06/2011 - 19:23.

You are so right LuluB about that duck.....none of them seem to know how to land with grace and elegance! Instead they go at it like a maddened elephant!

I know what you mean too about the reflections moving........it's so difficult to see things clearly when there are so many ripples......!

If you spot the babes before I do please leave me a message..........I shall of course be very jealous!

Giving up for tonight

Submitted by LuluB on Thu, 30/06/2011 - 22:05.

I'll be sure to post if I see them Titchtot, but it doesn't look like it will be tonight. I only see one very long beaver meandering about the place, and I'm falling asleep at my computer, so heading for bed now. Hope you'll be luckier, in which cae I'll be the jealous one! Night night.

Come out, come out, wherever you are...

Submitted by LuluB on Thu, 30/06/2011 - 18:31.

Come on you kits. It's traditional to emerge in June, so today is your last chance. Don't let the Beaver side down.
